Verdensdagen for psykisk helse: Tillit er beredskap.

Every year on 10 October, World Mental Health Day is marked around the world. The aim is to create openness, reduce stigma and remind us that mental health concerns all of us, not only in times of crisis. Talking about what we struggle with makes it easier to ask for help, and easier to be there for others. At Dr.Dropin Psychology, we mark the day by sharing our psychologists' tips on how to build trust in ourselves and in others.

Trust is built through experience

Grief, long-term stress, burnout or racing thoughts can affect more than our mood. Many people find that their trust in others, and in themselves, weakens during life crises and periods of mental health challenges. This is a completely normal reaction, and not a sign that something is wrong with you. The good news is that trust is not all or nothing. It can be rebuilt through new experiences, little by little. This World Mental Health Day, we want to focus on how we can do just that.

Trust develops through what we experience. With others, it grows when someone says they will call, and actually calls. When they accept that we say no, and when they listen even if they disagree. With ourselves, it grows when we listen to our own needs, set a necessary boundary or keep a promise we have made to ourselves. And when we make a mistake and manage to repair it, we learn that we do not have to be flawless to cope with what happens. Trusting yourself does not mean knowing that everything will be fine, but knowing that you will try to face what becomes difficult.

The psychologist's advice: Take one small step today

Our psychologists recommend starting small. Ask yourself: Who can I rely on? What do I do that makes it easier for others to trust me? And what is one small action I can take today? It could be sending the message you have put off, asking instead of assuming, or keeping a promise you have made.

A simple tip for the day itself is to send a message: "I've been thinking of you. How are you really doing?".

If you need someone to talk to, Dr.Dropin offers psychologist consultations by video with short waiting times and long opening hours.
