The equipment we use
Modern equipment makes varicose vein treatment gentle. Here is what the vascular surgeon uses.

Ultrasound
With ultrasound, the surgeon can see the veins under your skin and which way the blood flows. It doesn't hurt. Ultrasound is used both at the consultation and during treatment.

Radiofrequency catheter
A thin, flexible catheter is guided into the vein. It heats the vein wall at a controlled temperature, so the vein closes.

Local anaesthetic
The surgeon injects anaesthetic around the vein. It stops you feeling pain and protects the surrounding tissue from the heat.
Compression stocking
After treatment you wear a compression stocking for 10 days. It gives even pressure on the leg and helps it heal.

The consultation is non-binding, and no referral is needed. If you need treatment, you can often have it the same week.
