Severs disease
Sever’s disease (also known as calcaneal apophysitis) is an inflammation of the growth plate (apophysis) at the back of the heel bone (calcaneus). It mainly affects children and adolescents during periods of rapid growth, typically between the ages of 8 and 14, and is one of the most common causes of heel pain in this age group.
During growth spurts, the heel bone may grow faster than the surrounding muscles and tendons can keep up with. This creates increased tension from the Achilles tendon on the developing heel bone, leading to irritation, small micro-injuries, and inflammation in the growth plate. While this is a normal part of development, it can cause significant discomfort—especially during and after physical activity.
At Dr. Dropin, we have skilled practitioners who can assess your foot pain and help you receive the appropriate treatment.
